Keeping It Vague

In this week’s Keeping It Vague I explore the relationship between hip-hop and high art, go on an audio tour of languages and accents and share an artist with you that uses sheet music as a medium.  Oh and Game of Thrones!

Sadly, this will be my last contribution to Keeping It Vague, as I finish up my three-month internship with the OAE communications team today.  Therefore this post is a conglomeration of videos, images and ideas that I find interesting.  So please enjoy!

Historical art meets Hip-Hop

I certainly have never thought of hip-hop music as high-art, but a new article by blogger Dan Wilkinson makes a case that parallels can be drawn between the two art forms.  Just take a look at these images:

Left: Quentin Massys. Ecce Homo-1520 – Right: 2 Chainz

Left: Male Ancestor. 1st–4th century. Mesoamerica. Nayarit  – Right: Young Thug

A celebration of accents and languages

As the American in the office, I often get called out on my accent and discussions often spring up about the differences between American English and British English.  So to honour (honor) accents and languages from around the world, I present these two videos.

Sheet Music as a Medium

Artist Sara Riches sells her paintings on Saatchiart.com, like many other artists.  But what attracts me to her art is that she uses sheet music as the backdrop for many of her works.  If only I had an extra 400 quid, I could own one of these lovely works.

To see more of her paintings and to even purchase your own go here.

And now, Game of Thrones

Last weekend marked the beginning of the popular television programme Game of Thrones Season 4.  Many of us here in the office have been waiting with bated breath for this premiere and were ecstatic with the result.  And if you have not done so yet, you need to take the BuzzFeed Game of Thrones Quiz to find out which character you are.  I got Daenerys Targaryen, which is awesome!
